Reign of Assassins – class

It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down for the entirety of a movie. One – I’ve been quite busy. Two – I didn’t find any exceptionally good ones. ‘Inception’ being the single exception. So, I was quite delighted to find another movie which made me sit through it.

Reign of Assassins

‘The Reign of Assassins’ is an action film – the Wuxia genre to be precise. They also try to make it humorous and romantic at the same time. There are too many cliches. The story is pretty predictable. The fights are not spectacular. But, I love the movie.

Enthiran – robotic mess

I like Rajini. I’m not a diehard fan, but I like him. I like his style, majesticsm, charisma, jokes, humility. So, Enthiran supposed to be ‘magnum opus’ of Shankar, the director and Superstaroo star Rajinikanth was supposed to be the ultimate entertainment gala. This was the film that would redefine Tamil cinema. Except, it didn’t.

Thalaivar

I wouldn’t say outright that the movie sucks. But, it doesn’t do anything properly. Shankar could have either gone for

  • A true out and out Sci-fi movie – Bring in more of the iRobot and less of Kilimanjaro
  • An out and out Shankar Movie – Loads of Amazing scenes, saving the world plot

Why I like Raavanan, And you don't

This is probably pathetically late but anyway I just wanted to let it out. The movie was shot brilliantly and the locales completely splendid and the music by the maestro was … masterful. Everyone must have seen the movie by now and either like it or disliked it, so here goes nothing.

Raavana

If you remember back , back to the days when you first heard ‘Ramayan’ aka ‘Ramayanam’ ( from either your Granny or your teacher at first standard or from that awesome serial on Doordarshan like me :p ) you would remember an awesome story. Two princes are banished from their land. Evil demon kidnaps the prince’s wife. The two men muster an army of monkeys and squirrels. They fight against the ten-headed demon and all his giants. Heck, the prince even let the demon escape when he could have easily defeated him when the demon had no weapons. And you were even angered when the demon came back ( Urgh… His insolence :o ) and finally the prince defeats the demon and saves the world.

500 days of Summer – Sheer Oxygen

There aren’t many movies which you like from the start. And even if you do, there are very very and I mean … very few movies you like till the end. 500 days of Summer is one among those movies. Movies you treasure and remember.

500 days of Summer

Ok, the movie officially starts with this …

This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy grew up believing that he’ll never be happy until he met ‘the one’.
The girl did not share this belief.
Again, This is a story of boy meets girl. But you should know up front, that this is not a love story.

8 things to learn from Vinnai Thaandi …

Since, almost everyone I know raves about the film and it’s sweet romanticism. I thought about making some observations just in case you get caught in a gautham menonesque love.

Vinnai Thaandi Varuvayaa

  1. Always think twice before you choose Mechanical Engineering, cos there is a huge history there.
  2. Trains. Never miss an oppurtunity to go to a place in a train, especially long ones in the night ! But beware
  3. Slim, beautiful looking Malayalee girls ( especially those who look angelic in sarees ) are very very, and I mean very dangerous.
  4. You better have some money ( i.e. have a friend who has money) when you’re going to fall in love cause you’re probably going off to some place far far away which might even be America.

Indomitable : The Shawshank Redemption

‘ The Shawshank Redemption’ is one of the few movies that can make almost any person in any mood feel glad. The movie is a non-award winning (to this day, the biggest oscar snub  ) tale of ever-inspiring hope and perseverance.

The Shawshank Redemption

Andy Dufresne ( Tim Robbins ) is a hotshot banker. His wife cheats on him and drunk, he heads out to her lover’s home to put an end to everything. The next day, he doesn’t remember anything, but both his wife and her lover are found dead. Convicted, he ends up in jail with two consecutive life sentences. In there, he meets Red ( Morgan Freeman ) and they become friends. How he escapes from there is the rest of the tale. ( If you looking for Bond like action you’ll be severely disappointed ;) There’s not even a chase ).

Heartwarming: the Holiday

This isn’t a must-watch movie. There is no action, no pace, no thrill and nothing dramatic. But this is a story which is heartwarming, makes you glow inside and get back your belief in love and life. :)

Watch it - the Holiday

Watch it - the Holiday

The Holiday simply deals with love. Of how two women across the ocean, desperate to escape from the pains of love decide to switch home . And how inexplicably love creeps in and sweeps them off their feet :P
